Thauvin and Wijnaldum will make massive difference at Newcastle - Solano

Newcastle United great Nobby Solano believes the club has made some key signings this summer.

The former Magpies midfielder admits he at times empathised with striker Papiss Cisse last season as he had none or very little supply to work with.

In recent months, however, Newcastle have brought in the likes of Florian Thauvin from Marseille and Georginio Wijnaldum from PSV and Solano is of the belief that these types will increase the Toon's scoring power under Steve McClaren.

"The service for the front men is something that needed to be addressed last season," the Peruvian told the Chronicle.

"It was very poor at times and I did feel a bit sorry for Cisse.

"Bringing in somebody like Thauvin is a step in the right direction and I think that Gini Wijnaldum will also make a big difference.

"When I played with Alan Shearer and people like Craig Bellamy I knew my main job was to get the ball to them in the box and make assists.

"Hopefully Thauvin will be thinking the same sort of thing and be focusing on creating plenty of chances and goals.

"If he can get that right then everything else will drop into place for him at the club."
