Swansea boss Monk excited working with new signing Nelson Oliveira

Swansea City boss Garry Monk is convinced he can help new signing Nelson Oliveira return to his best.

Oliveira had made just one first-team appearance for Benfica so far this term, but will provide valuable cover for Swans' boss Monk with Wilfried Bony jetting off to the Africa Cup of Nations.

Monk is confident he and the Welsh club can help Oliveira show his true quality during his loan spell.

He said: "I think Nelson may feel he has lost his way over the last couple of years.

"It can be very difficult for young players, you are in and out of a manager's plans.

"But his desire is certainly there and the commitment and I am looking forward to seeing how he goes in the next few months.

"He brings quality, you can see the size of some of the clubs he was linked with.

"It is my job to get it out of him and help him get back to that level."

Monk has not ruled out completing a permanent deal for Oliveira if he takes his opportunity to impress at the Liberty Stadium.

He said: "It's a good chance for him to prove himself and who knows then what will happen in the future.

"I left the details of the deal to the club, but if things go well here a permanent deal is something we will look at.

"But I'm not looking that far ahead. The future for him is about the here and now.

"It's about him earning the right to be involved with this squad but I am sure we have a good player on our hands and he will produce."
