Sunderland ponder improved swap bid for Wolves striker Fletcher

Sunderland are planning a fresh swap offer for Wolves striker Steven Fletcher.

The Daily Mail says Wolves have turned down Sunderland's offer for 25-year-old Fletcher of £12million, so Martin O'Neill is likely to improve his bid by offering teenage striker Connor Wickham on a season's loan.

Wolves are holding out for their £15m asking price because Fletcher's former club Burnley are due 15 per cent of any profit over the £7m they sold him for.

The Molineux club, who pulled off a coup by signing Rennes midfielder Tongo Doumbia on loan on Sunday, may reject the offer of £8m-rated Wickham, 19, as they already have enough strikers.
