Sunderland boss David Moyes is confident Lamine Kone will sign a new deal.
Kone's head was turned after Everton tabled an £18m bid for the Ivory Coast international who only joined Sunderland from Lorient in the New Year.
“I hope he will have signed a new contract shortly," said Moyes, who's been encouraged by Kone's recent attitude.
“I've had nothing but smiles from him.
“I know what happens once the window shuts, it changes everything.
“There have been plenty of discussions and there are some more already pencilled in for next week some time.
“He's still got four years left on his current contract so it's not as if we are scraping around because we're short of time."
