Stoke winger Shea guides USA to Gold Cup triumph

USA have taken out the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup courtesy of a 1-0 victory over Panama in Chicago on Sunday.

Stoke City winger Brek Shea scored the only goal of the game in the 69th minute when he tapped home Alejandro Bedoya's cross from close range after it had evaded both Landon Donovan and Panama keeper Jaime Penedo in the six-yard box.

The victory was the US' fifth in the tournament and took place at Soldier Field in front of 57,920 fans with manager Juergen Klinsmann watching from a box after being suspended from the touchline for approaching the referee in the semi-final.

Shea's goal was his second of the competition after netting the sole goal in the group stage victory over Costa Rica and the USA's 20th in their sixth outing, having conceded just four.

During the tournament, the US beat Belize 6-1, Cuba 4-1, Costa Rica 1-0, El Salvador 5-1, Honduras 3-1 and Panama 1-0.
