Stoke City boss Mark Hughes is delighted with Jack Butland's new deal.
Butland, who joined from Birmingham two years ago, has agreed an extension until the summer of 2019.
"I think there is a huge amount of potential with Jack. He has the example of Asmir in that when he first came here he was not first choice but came through.
"Jack has seen that process and that will help him when he's thinking 'When will I get the opportunity?'
"Young goalkeepers are arguably more impatient than outfield players and it's understandable because there's only one spot and it can be difficult to dislodge the guy with the shirt.
"But he's pushing Asmir (Begovic) and Asmir knows that. And that's great for me."
