St Johnstone's 1-0 win at home last night forced Hamilton Academical down to Scotland's second division.
A 29th minute penalty converted by Liam Craig was the goal that denied the Accies Premier League football for next season as they fell four points behind St Mirren who won at Aberdeen.
Hamilton boss Billy Reid was extremely disappointed after the match and admitted the season was a failure for the New Douglas Park club.
"We have a group of players who have been relegated," he said.
"I am a manager for the first time who has been a failure. Every year I've been in management, six, seven, eight years, it's been success.
"But I always knew there would be a time at a club of this size when you have to take a step back and that's happened tonight.
"I'm gutted but I'm proud of my players, they gave me everything."
