Spurs, Man City move for Sevilla's Poulsen

Tottenham and Manchester City are believed to be among a number of clubs chasing the signature of Sevilla midfielder Christian Poulsen.

The Denmark international is valued at £7.5million and is thought to be a target of Spurs boss Juande Ramos, who enjoyed two successful years in charge of Sevilla prior to taking over at White Hart Lane.

It is also speculated that City boss Sven-Goran Eriksson is on the look-out for defensive reinforcements in the January transfer window and that he could swoop for the 27-year-old.

Jorn Bonnesen, Poulsen's agent, has confirmed that Sevilla have been contacted by a number of clubs regarding his client.

"It is certain there has been contact and Sevilla know the situation," Bonnesen told ABC. "But 10million euros is too much for those clubs. The club (Sevilla) have spoken with me about this, but I believe it is too soon for a move."

And Bonnesen does not believe Poulsen will be leaving Sevilla because he has a desire to play Champions League football.

Sevilla play Fenerbahce in the first knock-out round when the Champions League resumes in February and Bonnesen expects Poulsen, who is under contract until 2009, to still be at the Ramon Sanchez stadium for the tie.

"The questions will wait until the end of the season," Bonnesen added.

"Poulsen is happy at Sevilla and is very excited about the Champions League. At this time we are discarding a possible exit."
