Spurs boss Postecoglou hails Son, Maddison for 5-goal Burnley rout

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou was left delighted after their 5-2 win at Burnley.

A see-sawing game was dominated by captain Heung-min Son's hat-trick.

Postecoglou said: "It was good today for sure. Obviously going a goal down again you get tested and particularly after midweek you're looking for what kind of reaction the lads have. I thought they were outstanding in just staying really calm and clear headed and playing our football and we grew into the game.

"Once we got to grips with it I think thought we were dominant in just about every area. Maybe a little bit wasteful in the first half in the front third but in the second half we got really clinical. I can't praise the players highly enough in the way they navigated the challenges we had today.

"I've got a picture in my head of what I want the team to look like and I keep saying that we're still at the beginning, we're still building and there's still a lot to be done. It's about putting all the pieces together and at the same time not neglecting what's right in front of you.

"There are some really good footballers at this club and I think they have the ability to play in the way this team needs to set up. Sonny whether he's playing central or wide, he's got all the characteristics - mate he can play in any system - but the way we play he's ideal."

On James Maddison, he added: "I've only got to know him recently as a person but he's a very strong, resilient guy. He's mentally strong and he likes, not to be targeted, but he wants the ball and he wants to be in those situations, he has that quality.

"I thought today was a real testament to Sonny, Madders and Romero. They all scored but those three I've thrust into leadership positions and the way they've embraced that responsibility with not only words but actions, not just on game day but on a daily basis and that's as encouraging for me as anything because as fantastic players as they are individually they've all really bought into that team ethic.

"Madders is one of those. He is so creative and today he showed how clinical he is in front of goal and his preparedness to work hard for the team I think is a great example."
