Spartak drop interest in Liverpool winger Riera

Albert Riera is in danger of being left out in the cold at Liverpool after Spartak Moscow ruled out a move for the winger. The outspoken Spaniard has been told that he has no future at Anfield after a verbal attack against the managerial techniques of Rafa Benitez.

The 27-year-old has since attempted to regain the faith of Benitez, however, the Liverpool boss has stated that there is no way back.

Riera, though, could be forced to wait until the summer for a move, with Spartak Moscow manager Valery Karpin saying in the Daily Mail: "I can tell you why the transfer didn't happen.

"Riera wanted to go to Spartak to hit the jackpot. We made him understand that this wouldn't happen with us.

"I can say there will be no acquisitions before the transfer window closes."
