Newcastle midfielder Elliot Anderson is very much a target for a switch of international allegiance.

The 20-year-old has been playing with Scotland at youth level, but has not represented the senior side.

He pulled out of a recent call up due to injury, giving a chance to England to make him an offer.

“We liked him and we do like him, we think he's a player that's doing really well," said England boss Gareth Southgate to reporters.

“He was called into their (Scotland's) squad earlier in the week and I don't know what the position is at the moment.

“I saw he's pulled out. Let's see, that's something that John (McDermott, FA technical director) and others at our organization will be picking up. He's definitely a player we like."
