Southampton Ward-Prowse doesn't want to repeat England U21 mistakes

England Under 21 captain James Ward Prowse has told his teammates they cannot afford to be eliminated in the group stage as they did at the previous European Championships two years ago.

The Three Lions disappointingly drew their opening group match against Sweden 0-0. They face Slovakia in their second outing on Monday night in Kielce, which has been declared a "must win" game by manager Aidy Boothroyd.

The Southampton midfielder was a part of the squad that left the tournament in the Czech Republic prematurely, and his experience has made him focused on helping lead his team to the knock out stages.

He said: "It is not a nice feeling when you don't reach the level that you should do and the team two years ago should have gone further.

"That gives us all an incentive to put things right. It was massive disappointment but we're lucky enough that we get another chance to put things right.

"There are six or seven of us from the last time so we've all got those feelings and that hunger to get things right. We want to make sure that we're not having those same feelings again."
