Southampton have opened talks with German international midfielder Aaron Hunt.

The People says the Saints have jumped to the front of the queue for the Werder Bremen star, who can sign a pre-contract with them next month.

Newcastle United and Tottenham have also been looking at Hunt, but Southampton are close to pulling off a coup.
