Southampton striker Adams hails manager Jones after Cup win

Southampton striker Che Adams has praised the impact of new manager Nathan Jones.

Adams scored twice against Lincoln City in the League Cup to push the Saints into the last eight.

After their Carabao Cup success on the return of competitive action, Jones took time to lavish praise on recently instilled boss Jones, who replaced Ralph Hasenhuttl before the World Cup break.

“We spoke to the manager and the most important thing was to win," the Scottish international stated post-match, per the Daily Echo.

“New manager, new ideas, fresh ideas. A win was most important to take us into Boxing Day.

“It's been good, really positive.

“Different ideas and I think everyone can see that, we got bodies in the box, creating chances, but it's just about me and Sam (Edozie) being clinical and putting the ball in the net because in the Premier League you don't get those chances often."

“We knew they were going to be a good team, put us under pressure and they did that in the first couple of minutes," Adams added.

“But the manager said the only team that's going to beat us is ourselves and we made it hard for ourselves. We should have had a couple more goals but a win's a win and we take into Boxing Day against Brighton.

“To build into the Premier League, it was important for us. It was a test today because it's hard, it's difficult to play in these conditions against these teams that make it hard for you. We've got a young squad here, so everyone's got to learn from it but as I said, a win's a win and we build now back into the Premier League."
