Southampton are increasing their interest in young Argentinian midfielder Carlos Alvaraz.

The Saints are hoping to sign a central midfielder, defender, and forward this winter.

The 20-year-old plays for Racing Club at present, but is already highly rated in his country.

The likes of Benfica are also chasing after him, with the Portuguese club seeing him as a replacement for wantaway star Enzo Fernandez.

Per The Athletic, Southampton do want to sign Alcaraz, but may have to move quickly to fend off interest from other teams.

Alcaraz is seen as a replacement for Oriol Romeu, who left in the summer under Ralph Hasenhuttl.
