Southampton boss Ronald Koeman was also asked about reports that the Saints could make a move for defender Virgil van Dijk after Celtic's Champions League play-off tie with Malmo is completed.

"We need a fourth centre half in, we are working on it and we need time," he told BBC Radio Solent.

"I still believe we will get one before the transfer window shuts. Sometimes you have to wait to get the best one because clubs are competing in Europe."

The clubs were in contact earlier this summer but the Scottish champions are refusing to listen to offers until their attempt to qualify for the Champions League group stages is resolved.
