Alan Smith is desperate to stay with Manchester United, despite a £6 million offer from Middlesbrough for him being accepted.

The Daily Mail says Smith will only leave if he is told directly by the boss that he has no future at Old Trafford.

If Smith does leave, he wants to join a club big enough to match his ambitions and must decide if Middlesbrough fit the bill. There is also interest from Everton and Spurs. United need to sell before they sign another striker.
