Sherwood delighted with manner of Villa win over West Ham

Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood was delighted with victory over West Ham United.

Tom Cleverley struck the winner in victory over West Ham United.

Sherwood is still eyeing a couple of wins - but is feeling positive with matters "in our hands."

He said: "We are going in the right direction, aren't we. A couple more wins and we will be alright. Today, it was impossible to be as dominant as we were in the first half for 90 minutes.

"It is a Premier League game - you don't get 90 minutes of domination.

"But it was as comfortable as it could be at this stage of the season. In the first half we were more open and expansive. In the second half we were professional and knew how to kill the game off.

"We limited West Ham to one header at goal which was James Collins and you expect Shay Given to save.

"Even in the second period we were creating the better chances. I told them about complacency today - but I didn't see any of it.

"I saw a very open, attacking performance in the first half and a very professional performance in the second period. They are marrying it all together.

"I am happy with the group. There seems to be a real maturity growing and real flair and pace around the squad. I am pleased for them.

"There are some players who are not 100% fit but who are willing to put their bodies on the line for the cause. It's very pleasing."
