Newcastle midfielder Jonjo Shelvey is uncertain of his future at St James' Park following a weak season in which he started only two league games and scored only one goal.
The ex-Liverpool player is himself disappointed but determined to show his worth next season – whether for the Magpies or elsewhere.
"I needed to put in a good performance to get people talking about me — either at Newcastle or away from Newcastle," Shelvey told SunSport.
"At least I've finished with a good performance and goal.
"I'll enjoy the summer and see what the summer brings.
"To be fair, I'm glad to see the back of this season."
Shelvey was a West Ham fan as a boy and the Hammers are reportedly ready to step in if he fails to reach the agreement with Toon.
However, Newcastle are at the moment in contract talks with manager Rafael Benitez who might leave the club to join Celtic.
