Carlos Carvalhal is set to be named new manager of Sheffield Wednesday.
The Mail on Sunday says the 49-year-old former centre back is a surprise choice to replace Stuart Gray who was sacked last week.
Gray performed well when at the helm, so fans were shocked to hear of his departure from Hillsborough.
Carvalhal has had a varied and colourful career managing, coaching more than a dozen clubs in Portugal and Turkey.
He is understood to have been selected after the club's Thai owners sought advice from former colleagues including Jose Mourinho.
