Sevilla have announced the dismissal of coach Jose Luis Mendilibar.

Mendilibar was shown the door by Sevilla's board after their draw with Rayo Vallecano.

However, the veteran coach effectively paid for a poor opening two months of the season.

Sevilla announced: "Sevilla has decided, after the management meeting, to sack José Luis Mendilibar in light of the results at the start of the season.

"The club wants to thank the Basque coach for his work, his name will remain imprinted in the history of the club for the victory of the seventh Europa League."
