Sevilla midfielder Ivan Rakitic slammed match officials after their 2-1 defeat at home to Girona.

Yangel Herrera and Aleix Garcia struck for Girona, with Nemanja Gudelj on the mark for Sevilla.

VAR also reversed a penalty call for Sevilla which infuriated the hosts.

"It's not what we wanted," said Rakitic. "I think we arrived many times and it's a shame that all the team's work came to nothing. Small details don't work out in our favour. We have to work harder for those things to come out.

He also concluded by slamming the refereeing: “I would like that since we speak so much that the referees themselves would get here and explain what they do. It seems to me that the referees, after all the years they have been here, do not understand the game and we are being a joke. Today here, tomorrow there. I don't understand."
