Sevilla chief Orta: No regrets over Alonso appointment

Sevilla chief Victor Orta is standing by coach Diego Alonso.

The Uruguayan has had an underwhelming start to his time in charge of Sevilla after replacing former coach Jose Luis Mendilibar.

Orta said, "I don't regret my decision. And now I'm even more sure of having hired him.

"We are very happy with him. And the results will come, because I know how hard he works every day, I know how he prepares the games, I know what team he has found and what he has to improve."

Orta also said: "I met Diego when he was still a Peñarol player. He talked to me about football and it had a big impact on me. Then he won the CONCACAF Champions League with two different clubs, which is a very difficult competition.

"Then I made a presentation to the board with the candidates. I explained my idea. In the end there were three. We did three interviews. And we decided on him."
