Fredy Montero was grateful to the Sporting Lisbon support after he netted a hat-trick on debut on the weekend.
The 26-year old Colombian forward, who is on loan from Seattle Sounders, scored in the 38th, 70th and 86th minutes of Sporting's 5-1 home victory over Arouca to kick off the Portuguese Primeira Liga season with a bang.
After the match, however, Montero preferred to share the spotlight with his teammates and also thanked the Lisbon fans for showing their brilliant support.
"I scored three goals that helped the team to win," he said.
"We applied what Leonardo Jardim has been teaching us. Thanks to the support of the fans, we got a good result.
"Now we just have to take one step at a time and fight to win as many games as possible."
Sporting will now prepare for the clash with Academica in Coimbra this coming weekend.
