Newcastle United defender Fabian Schar is grateful to manager Eddie Howe for giving him a fresh chance.
Schar was on the outer at Newcastle under former boss Steve Bruce before he was replaced by Howe.
The Swiss recalled to Chronicle Live: "I was in a difficult situation and I didn't know if the club was there for me. When Eddie came in, that was my chance.
"I didn't expect to be playing in Champions League. I never thought about it. It was a different time. The first three or four years we were fighting relegation. That is what makes it even better for me. I love this club so much and having these times."
On proving Bruce wrong, he said: "You'll have to ask him..... I've had two great years under Eddie and he's made me a better player. When the team is doing well it is easier. I'm just happy to see the way the club has been."
Schar is off contract in June and added: "I wouldn't complain!
"I love the club and want to be here. I don't have to say anything else."
