Saudi Arabia has announced its intention to put in a bid to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup.
The Middle Eastern nation appears to have a key path to getting a World Cup after all.
The 2030 edition is set to take place in three countries, with three additional countries hosting games as well.
Saudi minister of sport Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Faisal told Saudi Press Agency: “Hosting a FIFA World Cup in 2034 would help us achieve our dream of becoming a leading nation in world sport and would mark a significant milestone in the country's transformation.
“As an emerging and welcoming home for all sports, we believe that hosting a FIFA World Cup is a natural next step in our football journey."
Per Sky Sports, the Saudis did want to bid for 2030, but the Spain, Portugal and Morocco bid was preferred by FIFA.
For the 2030 edition, the first matches will be held in Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay.
