Salgado disappointed after Vancouver Whitecaps pre-season defeat

The 2011 MLS SuperDraft number one selection was not at all happy with his most recent outing for his new club.

Vancouver Whitecaps starlet Omar Salgado admitted he played dismally in the pre-season loss to LA Galaxy on Tuesday, indicating that he sets high targets for himself.

The 17-year old was a surprise top pick with most onlookers expecting the 'Caps to take Darlington Nagbe, who went to Portland with the second selection, and maybe the weight of expectations took its toll on the Texan-born forward.

"I'm unhappy with the performance. I think I should have played a little bit better," he said after the game. "I just didn't do the things I wanted to. I didn't come out like I wanted to.

"I feel a certain amount of pressure."

But Vancouver coach Teitur Thordarson said that the talented youngster was far too harsh on himself and believes he will be fine once he settles a bit more.

"There's no doubt he was disappointed when he came off (Tuesday). The reason was that he feels he is not playing very well," Thordarson said. "He is battering himself a little bit because of that. But it's a part of (the game) and he has to be patient, work on it and he'll be fine.

"He is one of those (players) that we have to be a little careful with because we can't play him every game. (He) has to get used to the physical level (in MLS).

"So we have to make sure that he recovers between the games that he plays and he trains well."
