Rose backing Sunderland to continue improvement

Danny Rose is confident that Sunderland will keep producing improved results following a slow beginning to the season.

The Black Cats beat Wigan Athletic 1-0 on Saturday for their first victory of the campaign following four straight draws and left-back Rose can sense more of the same as he and his fellow summer signings continue to adapt.

"There are new faces," said Rose. "Steven Fletcher has been unbelievable and as soon as we get Adam Johnson match-fit, I can seem him being great for Sunderland.

"We are still growing and everyone is getting fitter and we will see where it takes us in a few weeks.

"Wigan was a must-win, especially when we have drawn the first four games of the season.

"No disrespect to Wigan, but it was a game we all thought we could win."
