Ridgewell's move from Birmingham to West Brom confirmed

Liam Ridgewell's move from Birmingham City to West Bromwich Albion has been completed.

The 27-year old defender has signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with the Baggies with the option for a further year which is believed to be worth just under £2million.

Ridgewell, who is the 14th player to leave Birmingham since their Carling Cup triumph last season, will bring plenty to the Baggies defence according to manager Roy Hodgson.

"Liam is a very experienced defender and has the added benefit of being left-sided. We do not have many of those defenders at the club," said Hodgson.

"He can also play in two positions (left-back and centre-back) and he is used to playing in teams under pressure to get results to stay in the league.

"We hope we won't be one of those teams under pressure but, if we are, it is good to have someone of that experience.

"Liam was a transfer target last summer and since the start of this January but negotiations have been long and arduous which is often the case."

Ridgewell will obviously miss tomorrow night's trip to Fulham but will be available for the home clash with Swansea City on Saturday.
