Manchester City defender Micah Richards can't see young players making it at the club.
Richards feels the pressure for results means the manager can only risk working with readymade seniors.
Now on loan at Fiorentina after 245 appearances for City, he said: "I wanted to stay there so long to prove to people you don't need to go out and spend £30m on a defender because you have got it here.
"I feel a little bit sorry for the youngsters at City because they have got some really, really good ones. They are not going to get a chance because they are not good enough, they are not going to get a chance because whoever is in the managerial role is under pressure to get results.
"A lot of people say 'the manager doesn't like English' but it is nothing to do with that. The manager has to pick the best team that he see right for results, whether they are English, Spanish, Portuguese."
