The resignation of Xavi at Barcelona was a key influence on Lucas Bergvall's decision to sign for Tottenham.

The Djurgarden midfielder, 18, will join Spurs at the end of the season after signing on Friday.

Bergvall had visited Barcelona on Wednesday, but still signed for Tottenham two days later.

TMW says Spurs won the transfer battle after offering a superior salary package and also a higher commission to his agents.

Further, Xavi's resignation disappointed Bergvall, who was eager to work with the Barca legend.

The midfielder, who turned 18 yesterday, has signed a contract until 2029 with Spurs.
