Sunderland boss David Moyes missed out signing Jay Rodriguez after he scored against them!
The Daily Star says not only did Rodriguez equalise in the 85th minute to deny Sunderland their first Premier League win of the season, he also killed off a move to the Stadium of Light.
Southampton were prepared to let him go on a temporary transfer in exchange for a £2million loan fee.
But all that changed when Rodriguez, whose promising career has been interrupted by major injuries, saw a shot squirm under the body of Sunderland's young goalkeeper, Jordan Pickford.
That prompted Saints to decide they might need Rodriguez after all and they opted not to let him leave in the summer transfer window.
