Manchester United fullback Luke Shaw fell out with Jose Mourinho for the final weeks of his tenure.
The Daily Mail says Shaw pulled up with a back spasm in the warm-up before the win over Fulham on December 8.
His decision to declare himself unfit for that game annoyed Mourinho. The pair did not speak for the remainder of the Portuguese coach's time at Old Trafford.
Mourinho, who was sacked on Tuesday, had been at pains to raise his side's chronic injury problems in the lead-up to his last two matches at the helm.
He did not refer to Shaw by name, but it was assumed the England international was struggling with his fitness alongside eight other first-team regulars. In fact, Shaw was fit for both games but did not join a threadbare travelling party to Valencia that included rookie teenagers James Garner and Mason Greenwood.
That is believed to have been a direct consequence of missing the Fulham victory.
