West Ham United passed on signing Micah Richards ahead of his move to Fiorentina.
The Manchester City defender, off contract in June, has joined Fiorentina on a season-long loan.
The Daily Mail says sources at West Ham were surprised he wasn't prepared to take a huge drop in wages for first team football.
Fiorentina have paid a £1 million loan fee for the England defender.
