Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu is in advanced talks to sign a major Spanish player.

Sport says Bartomeu will reveal the identity of the player "six to eight days" out from the July 18 Barcelona election.

The mystery player is rated a Barca first teamer and holds a Spanish passport.

Bartomeu struck terms with the club of the unnamed midfielder over the weekend. He negotiated the terms personally.

Joan Laporta presented his ticket yesterday, which included Eric Abidal as sporting director and Johan Cruyff returning as honourary president.
