REVEALED: Barcelona defender Umtiti rejected approach from Liverpool chief Edwards

Liverpool failed with an approach to Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti on deadline day, it has been revealed.

The Reds ushered through two defensive signings on Monday, with Preston stopper Ben Davies arriving in the morning and Ozan Kabak, of Schalke, in the late evening.

In France, it's claimed Liverpool failed with offers for Duje Caleta-Car, of Marseille, and Lyon veteran Marcelo before turning to Kabak.

And the Athletic in England reports Liverpool football chief Michael Edwards also made an attempt for Umtiti.

Barca have been seeking buyers at a starting price of just €15m for the World Cup winner, but the France international knocked back Liverpool's approach early on Monday.
