The prospect of returning to Real to replace coach Julen Lopetegui is gaining momentum after yesterday's dismal home defeat to Levante.
Guti left Real only this past summer after two years coaching the youth team to join Senol Gunes' staff at Besiktas.
Castilla coach Santiago Solari has also been mentioned. He is impressing president Florentino Perez and his No2 Jose Angel Sanchez, but the pair are wary of promoting him too soon. Instead, they'd prefer he stay the season in his current job before being considered for the top job.
For the moment, AS says Lopetegui will survive this week ahead of the El Clasico against Barcelona next weekend.
