Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez has long known Paul Pogba has been Zinedine Zidane's priority transfer.

The summer market shut last week with Pogba still a Manchester United player, despite the efforts of Florentino to prise him from Old Trafford.

France Football says even ahead of Eden Hazard, coach Zidane has demanded the signing of Pogba from Florentino. The midfielder's addition first raised during talks to bring Zidane back to the club last season.

The Frenchman wants to make the World Cup winner the cornerstone of his new project and a new attempt in January is being planned.

For their part, United are in contact with Pogba's agent Mino Raiola this week about scheduling a round of talks about a new deal.
