Real Madrid chief Emilio Butragueno hailed Marcos Asensio's performance for victory over Leganes last night.

The midfielder arguably produced the best display of his Real career.

Butragueno said: "It's his natural evolution, it did not surprise me. He is a guy who understands the game very well and is technically very gifted.

"He has enormous potential and every time he is required he is proving it. He played very well. He has made an extraordinary match. He opened the game and every time he received the ball he improved the play. It says a lot about a player who is in his first year, who is very young. He shows a great personality."

He added: "He feels (Zinedine) Zidane's confidence. He has played many games and responded phenomenally. That's what he has to do. With every performance he has to show that he can continue here and we are happy with him."
