Reading boss Steve Coppell insists there's no chance of him splashing out big on a new signing.

"We have to do things our own way which is fairly simplistic. But we won't be brining in massive signings," he said. "We have a structure and to bring in one person outside of that structure would be insulting to the players who have got us where we are over the past two years.

"It's a huge challenge, but it won't be done with huge financial investment. In terms of numbers, I'm quite happy with the squad."

Coppell continued: "If I were to bring one in at £20 million - which if I went to the chairman on bended knee we could do - and somebody comes in earning five times as much as everyone else, then our very chemistry is destroyed. I just wouldn't do that.

"We are what we are and don't profess to be something else. It's only 11 versus 11 at kick-off and I want 11 who are desperate to prove they are the equals or superiors to the opposition."
