QPR boss Redknapp admits Giggs chat convinced him about Ferdinand deal

QPR boss Harry Redknapp admits speaking with Manchester United assistant manager Ryan Giggs about taking on Rio Ferdinand.

There have been doubts raised over Ferdinand's fitness and QPR manager Redknapp today revealed he had questioned Giggs about the former England centre-half.

Redknapp said: "I just asked Ryan how much training he did last season and he said to me that if he was Manchester United manager this year, Rio would be his first-choice centre-half.

"When Ryan took over for that short spell last year, the first thing he did was put Rio back in the team. He was fit all last season. It was not a case of him not being fit, it was just David Moyes wanted to change the team and did not pick him.

"You will always get doubters. You will always get people saying players are past it or finished. I back my own judgment. I have got no doubts at all about Rio."
