French pundit Pierre Menes praised Chelsea midfielder N'Golo Kante for his performance in France's World Cup triumph over Argentina.

Menes has been critical of Kante at this summer's tournament, but admits he was influential for Saturday's 4-3 win.

"He often found himself in the (Lionel) Messi area, unless it was Messi who was on his own," said Menes.

"He focused on the defensive aspect, which was important in a match where the Blues have several times found themselves in trouble. It was a satisfying match."

France coach Didier Deschamps, in the post-match, admitted Kante's marking job on Messi was key to the 4-3 win.
