PSV chief De Jong: How we beat Man Utd, Chelsea to Noni Madueke deal

New PSV Eindhoven sports chief John de Jong believes they've pulled off a coup in signing Noni Madueke.

The midfielder arrives on a free transfer from Tottenham, having fielded rival interest from Manchester United and Chelsea. Indeed, Madueke spent time towards the end of last season with United.

However, De Jong explained: "We are increasingly receiving the signal that English talents are open to a switch to the Netherlands.

"They see that the chance of breaking into the first team in the Netherlands at a young age is much greater than in England, a trend that has reversed in the past few years, in which we saw many Dutch youth players leave for England."

De Jong added: "It is very nice that a player with his background, an English youth international playing for a top English club, chooses the youth development system of PSV."
