PROMOTED! Fulham secure Prem return with extra-time win over Brentford

Fulham have returned to the Premier League after just one season.

The Cottagers overcame Brentford with a 2-1 victory in the Championship play-off at Wembley on Tuesday.

It was a tight contest at England's hallowed stadium as the scores were tied after 90 minutes.

But on the stroke of the first-half of extra-time, Joe Bryan caught Brentford keeper David Raya off-guard with a 35-yard free-kick.

Raya was expecting Bryan to whip a cross in but the Englishman went straight for goal and put his side ahead.

The left-back then made it 2-0 with three minutes remaining after a quality move from Scott Parker's side.

Henrik Dalsgaard scored late injury time for the Bees but it was all too late as they slumped to their ninth-loss defeat in the Championship play-offs.

That was the benefit of Parker and Fulham, who now get a shot at redemption after a horror showing in the 2018/19 Premier League season.

Speaking after the game, Parker said: "We've done what we've done tonight, but there's still improvement, and that's what makes me so proud and happy.

"For all of the good players and everything you see, what makes me so happy I see a group of players who only a year ago were struggling psychologically, didn't have a mindset or mentality.

"I've driven this team every single day and what makes me proud is I stood on the touchline tonight and seen a team that represents what I've been saying over the last 12 months."
