The Premier League have ruled out Newcastle United being permitted to make an emergency goalkeeper signing.
Toon are down to their third-choice, Jak Alnwick, with Tim Krul and Robert Elliot both injured.
But a Premier League spokesman told the Sunderland Echo: "Newcastle United are not eligible to sign a goalkeeper on emergency loan as they have three fit goalkeepers on the books, Jak Alnwick, Freddie Woodman and Karl Darlow.
"Only clubs with one fit goalkeeper are eligible."
Darlow is currently out on loan at Nottingham Forest but the Premier League spokesman confirmed players out on domestic loan still count.
