Middlesbrough midfielder Gary O'Neil is wanted by former club Portsmouth.

The Mirror says the 26-year-old was heavily linked with a move back the south coast in the summer but Pompey did not have the cash to fund the move.

They could now face stiff competition for the player with Wigan, Bolton, Blackburn and Birmingham all keen to bring him back to the Premier League.

Fulham are also interested and can even offer O'Neil European football.
