Portsmouth are closing in on Lyon midfielder Alou Diarra.

Pompey boss Harry Redknapp has been given permission to speak to Diarra, who would cost in the region of £4million, although Werder Bremen are also said to be in the hunt for his signature according to The People.

Diarra was on the books of Liverpool for several seasons without ever playing a match for the Reds.
