Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino was left delighted after their 2-1 win against Crystal Palace
A final minute penalty converted by Noni Madueke proved the winner on the night.
Pochettino said: "We created many chances. I am really pleased with the performance. You need to adapt to the team and it's an important step for Christopher Nkunku.
"The Premier League is really tough and we need to be consistent. The first half of the season has been really up and down and it's been tough and difficult. But we're positive and we need to show that we can compete."
On the decision for Madueke to take the penalty in place of suspended duo Raheem Sterling and Cole Palmer, Pochettino explained: "It was Conor [Gallagher] and I said to him 'it's you but if you're not confident enough give it Noni'.
"I am so glad and so happy. He came from the bench and showed this hunger and confidence."
