Plaudits roll in for France hero Dimitri Payet

Dimitri Payet was the man of the moment in France's opening Euro2016 match against Romania on Friday night.

The West Ham United attacking midfielder provided an assist and produced a superb winner as Les Bleus defeated the Romanians 2-1 at the Stade de France.

Payet stood up a nice ball for Olivier Giroud to head home to give France the lead in the 57th minute before delivering a spectacular left-footed strike from about 20 yards to win it for the host nation in the 89th minute, after Bogdan Stancu had levelled from the penalty spot.

Payet's overall performance was absolutely sublime and he was the subject of plenty of Twitter praise from some of English football's greatest exponents in the form of Alan Shearer, Gary Lineker, Rio Ferdinand and Ian Rush who poured plaudits the way of the 29-year-old throughout the match.
