Vincent Nogueira is set to become a Designated Player with Philadelphia Union in the wake of his former club Sochaux's relegation from France's top flight.
The 26-year old midfielder joined the Union from Sochaux in January but had a clause written into his contract which would see the Montbeliard outfit pocket $150,000 if they happened to be relegated.
On the weekend, Les Lionceaux lost 3-0 to Evian - a result that sealed their fate for next season - which will be played out in France's Ligue 2.
Multiple reports from MLS Transfers and Philly.com suggest that the Sochaux result has cost the Union close to $150k, which along with Nogueira's $330,000 salary, makes him a DP under MLS rules.
The 2014 MLS threshold for a DP is reported to be just under $390,000 which places Nogueira in the DP category after it was initially believed he was signed on a free transfer.
